idSpace press release

The idSpace consortium has just started a project for the development of a software platform that will serve as a pressure cooker for production innovation. The platform stimulates and supports brainstorms, stores its results, and gives access to results of previous innovation projects.

Product innovation
For many companies, product innovation is of vital importance. It is the exchange of ideas between people and companies that drives the conception and development of new products. Such ideas may target new products, but also their marketing, their industrial design, choice of materials, etc. Nowadays, the results of a brainstorm that are not further detailed often are discarded, That is a pity, for other projects - now and in the future - might be able successfully to build on them.

Pressure cooker
The idSpace platform will facilitate exchanging ideas, as well as learning how to use those ideas for product innovation. It does so by providing a (virtual) environment that stores both he brainstorming process and its results in texts, figures, diagrams, mind maps, key words, etc. That way, new ideas cannot be lost. Indeed, they may be used in the next innovation round, of in other projects, with other people and companies. Thus idSpace becomes a kind of incubation chamber/pressure cooker for production innovation and for learning about it.

European Project
Nine companies and universities from six countries collaborate on the idSpace project. The European Union provides financial support for the project. Every partner contributes its own expertise as well as co-financing.
